Of 100 requests for quotes to convert a website to WordPress, 20 of those websites will be in Joomla, 10% of them will be produced using old HTML code using Dreamweaver, Website Tonight or even raw hand-coding. The remaining 5-10% will be from websites created with Drupal software. This morning a quote request came in asking why WordPress is so much better than Drupal. Here is my response:
“Possibly the greatest benefit of WordPress over Drupal is that WordPress is universally supported. Drupal is a fine tool if you have a complex website with multiple users and even multiple develoers needing concurrent access to the back-end of the site. You really should have either your own in-house development crew. If not, I would only suggest Drupal to someone that uses a freelance developer or even a partner with tons of Drupal experience and ONLY if that person has worked with you for a couple of years and you’re confident the person will not be gone forever next month. The minute you bring in someone from the outside to administer/develop a Drupal site, they’ll want to redo it their own way. With WordPress, any WordPress-knowledgeable developer can jump in and go from there.”
Can you contribute any other reasons that Drupal would be a better fit for a website than WordPress or why WordPress is a better fit for everyone over Drupal?
